Hello from Sight Advice South Lakes!
We are a charity who supports those with sight impairments to maintain or regain independence via personal and peer support, home visits and other social activities. The rural area in which Sight Advice is set coupled with the impact of sight loss results in many local elderly people becoming socially isolated and lonely in their own homes.
Consequently, the charity is developing the Community Circles model in an attempt to encourage those with sight impairments to become more involved in their communities. Although in its infancy the project already has individuals expressing an interest in revisiting previous hobbies or increasing their involvement in community activity.
Our star Circle member is a 100-year-old lady whose goal it is to ride a bike once more! She plans to attend the local accessible cycling group to trial a tandem trike in the near future. We are all looking forward to being able to support those in our community, whatever their level of sight, and to develop connections to enable our members to become less isolated and more involved in our wonderful area.
